Kansas Colleges Without Apparent Study Abroad Programs

Many colleges throughout the United States offer active, vibrant and extensive Study Abroad Programs for their students. Nationwide, approximately 10% of all college students participate in some form of Study Abroad experience.

After researching colleges in Kansas, we learned that not all Kansas Colleges offer a Study Abroad Program to their students. Approximately 10 private and public four-year Kansas colleges and approximately 20 Kansas community colleges do not offer an apparent Study Abroad Program for their students.

There is a possibility that some of the colleges on this list will work with a student interested in Study Abroad to find a program that the college will allow, but their websites do not make it easy to glean that information simply and quickly.

Kansas Community Colleges Without an Apparent Study Abroad Program

The Community College model of education primarily offers two-year academic or technical programs for students to either complete their Associates Degree in an academic program intended to prepare the student to work in their field of interest or to transfer to a 4-year college or university, or Technical Certification in their field of interest that increases their skills and improves their chances for success in their chosen occupation.

Most college students are upperclassmen when they have the time, the maturity and readiness to study abroad in a foreign country. Junior Year is the most common timeframe chosen by students to participate in a Study Abroad Experience.

It is common for community colleges not to offer a Study Abroad Program. It is more difficult to find the time to Study Abroad in a two-year program, but it can be done successfully with proper planning and support.

Only one Kansas community college promotes a Study Abroad Program on its website: Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. You can learn about their programs here.
